Building 777 Construction Cranes Successfully Installed

Just before the Christmas break, an important milestone was reached for the Building 777 project: the first construction crane was assembled on site. Shortly after the winter holidays, the second crane was successfully installed, marking a very visible step forward after years of preparation. These cranes will play a key role throughout the construction phase and will accompany the project as it takes shape over the coming months.

We would like to thank CERN users and colleagues for their understanding regarding the temporary inconvenience caused by the works, including detours on the Prévessin site. Your patience and cooperation are greatly appreciated as we move forward with this important project.

In the coming weeks, construction activities will mainly focus on foundation works. Further visible milestones are planned for the spring, when the concrete cores and the first timber columns will be installed. This will be another special moment for the project, as the structure begins to rise above ground.

About the project

Designed by Henning Larsen Architects, Building 777 will provide modern offices with around 530 workspaces, ten new laboratories, a new Restaurant 3, as well as conference and meeting facilities. It will serve as a central hub for the Accelerator and Technology Sector (ATS) and create a vibrant social and service space at the heart of the Prévessin site.

The project reflects CERN’s ambition to combine functionality with sustainability. With its exposed timber structure, high environmental standards, and careful integration into the surrounding landscape, Building 777 will be a flagship for low-carbon design and workplace well-being. At the same time, it will enable the renovation or removal of outdated buildings, improving efficiency and freeing up space for future developments.

We will continue to keep you informed as construction progresses. For more information, background, and future updates, please visit the project website:
